Product details

Else Sonnenberg created a vivid picture of life in the then German colony of South West Africa in 1905 with her book, through truthful descriptions. This was not based on years of experience in the country and with the locals, but rather on a series of tumultuous events she experienced in a short time, namely during her first travels through the then protectorate, her happy days at Waterberg, and soon after during the Herero uprising. As an eyewitness, Else Sonnenberg also describes the many signs that preceded the uprising, which ultimately cost her husband his life. Despite everything, she sees the good in people. Thus, she has created a unique historical document that has now been reissued after 100 years.
