11-year-old René leads a pretty normal life. He enjoys funny words, has a crush on his classmate Leili, attends the service at his small community church, and often argues and reconciles with his siblings Anna and Sven. One day, their mother informs the three children that their widowed grandfather is moving in with them. Everyone is curious, as they have heard rather unusual stories about the old man. He collects strange newspaper articles, smokes (a sin!), has no interest in God or faith, and doesn't quite fit the image of a loving grandfather. Indeed, Grandpa Elias shakes up their cozy family life quite a bit. During the service, he loudly comments on the sermon and makes shameless advances towards the neighbor woman.
