Product details

Munich at the turn of the century: The who’s who of German Expressionism gathers in the art metropolis of the moment, among them the young Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941). He spends two decades in the city on the Isar, where he matures into a world-class artist, whose landscapes, still lifes, and portraits are now considered major works of Classical Modernism. Born in Tschork in the Tver Governorate, he moves to Munich in 1896 together with the painter Marianne von Werefkin, who continuously promotes and supports him, and meets avant-garde artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, and Gabriele Münter. In exchange with others, Jawlensky finds himself and his uniquely vibrant use of color in painting, which remains unparalleled to this day.
