For a long time, she unjustly remained in the shadow of her first partner Wassily Kandinsky. It was she who founded the New Artists' Association Munich in 1909 and the Blue Rider in 1911. Her villa in Murnau became a meeting point for the Munich avant-garde. Bright color fields with dark contours characterize her unique work, inspired by Fauvism, woodcut, and Bavarian folk glass painting.
