Joe Prohaska, a former chief detective from Stuttgart, lives in a tiny village in Istria, where he has settled down after early retirement. When he receives an anonymous package referencing a murder case he worked on many years ago, peace is no longer an option. The perpetrator had sworn revenge on him back then. Now he is free again. Prohaska does not believe the man poses a danger to him, yet he tells Inspector Rossi about it. However, Rossi has no time, as the body of an unknown person has washed up on the beach at Punta Corrente. Prohaska decides to investigate the matter of the package himself. Before that, he has to take the official photos at a wedding. But when the groom mysteriously disappears shortly after the ceremony, Prohaska suspects that he is once again in the wrong place at the wrong time.
