Product details
The last book by Jirí Grusa, who passed away in October 2011, is titled "Benes as an Austrian" and deals with the double capitulation of a man who was also responsible for the homogenization of the national structure of Czechoslovakia. His submission to Hitler led to the complex of defeatism, which the Czechs continue to struggle with today. His submission to Stalin brought the state into the Soviet Empire. Grusa's book has the characteristics of a factual novel. The characters are real, not fictional. The work with the facts is scientific, while the work with words is literary. The result is an engaging read with implications for today's Czech self-image. The response to the Czech version suggests that there is now a new perspective on this personality. There is also an effort to build monuments for Benes.
