Erich Prunc (1941), a Carinthian Slovene, Slavic scholar, and translation scientist, engages in a joyful and radical poetic deconstruction of central Carinthian Slovene myths in his early poetry collection Still-Leben (1965), which has remained without a successor. He explores the myth of King Matthias, who is supposed to restore justice and righteousness as a personification of historical expectations, the Blessed Women who dwell in the Karawanken mountains and represent the longing for harmony and poetry, and the idealized female figure of the Rosental peasant girl Miklova Zala, who is said to have been kidnapped by the embodiment of evil, the Turks, and returned safely to the pastoral idyll. In "Die Zyklopen," he finally addresses the violence of the one-eyed creatures, who defend their imaginary territory against the ships of the worldly Odysseus through concrete events.
