Surviving in the Wilderness is an exciting, masterfully told adventure novel. For brothers Tom and Johnny, a big adventure means a trip to Finland that they undertake with their mother in the middle of winter. To escape the domestic troubles with her older stepdaughter, she has booked a husky tour through the Finnish wilderness for herself and her sons. Indeed, the boys have an enormous amount of fun in the white expanse with the sled dogs. Then the unthinkable happens: their mother gets lost in the snow, and the sled drivers give up the search far too quickly. But not Tom and Johnny: secretly, they harness the huskies to the sleds and set off alone in search of her.
