The last true wild horse herd lives in the Münsterland: The Wild Horse Reserve, a 400-hectare area in the Merfelder Bruch, is home to the Dülmener wild horses. In this landscape characterized by depressions and forests, the animals are left entirely to their own devices. Natural selection ensures that only the toughest, most robust, and healthiest survive. Once a year, humans intervene in the horses' daily lives: during the traditional Dülmener Wild Horse Roundup. This impressive spectacle, where the 400 horses are herded together, attracts around 15,000 visitors each year. At this event, the one-year-old stallions are captured and branded with the mark of the Dukes of Croy. This book showcases the life of the small, resilient Dülmener wild horses in all its facets.
