Product details

Contemporary animal ethics has primarily emerged as a response to the treatment of so-called farm animals. In this context, the following questions have been neglected: What does the moral considerability of non-human animals mean for our treatment of wild animals? Should this treatment necessarily be the same as that of domesticated animals? Could unequal treatment be justified, or does it represent an arbitrary act? These questions have been increasingly addressed in recent animal ethics discourse. This volume engages intensively with these issues, examining how classical theories of contemporary animal ethics can be applied to the treatment of wild animals. A particular focus is placed on Clare Palmer's context-sensitive approach and its implications for wildlife and so-called synanthropes.
