The book is a guide for the optimized and designed construction of bridge structures that are functional and simultaneously constructed with an aesthetic claim. This can only be achieved if all requirements and boundary conditions for structural form and construction method are comprehensively considered from the very beginning of the planning process. A strength of the book is its material and construction method-independent approach to bridge design. The Eurocodes for bridge construction in Germany were made mandatory in 2013. The DIN manuals for bridge construction summarize the normative regulations of the relevant Eurocode parts and associated national annexes for the construction types of concrete, steel, and composite steel, as well as the loads involved. Additional tools are not provided by the Federal Highway Research Institute or the Federal Ministry of Transport, Construction and Urban Development.
