Wilhelm Busch (1832 - 1908) was one of the most influential humorous poets and illustrators in Germany. His first comic story appeared as panels in 1859 and as a book titled "Bilderpossen" in 1864. By the 1870s, he was already considered one of the prominent figures in Germany. At the time of his death, he was regarded as a "classic of German humor," having achieved great popularity with his satirical comic stories. Today, he is seen as one of the pioneers of comics. Many of his couplets, such as "Becoming a father is not hard, being a father is very much so" or "This was the first prank, but the second follows immediately," have become fixed expressions. His satires often mock the characteristics of individual types or social groups. In his comic stories, he addresses the self-satisfaction and questionable moral views of the bourgeois.
