In the summer of 2000, an exhibition by the Bonn Friedrich Ebert Foundation at the Oslo City Hall commemorated the social democratic politician and statesman Willy Brandt (1913-1992). At a symposium organized by the Goethe-Institut Oslo at the Norwegian Nobel Institute on this occasion, German and Norwegian speakers reflected on a political life that has become an important part of German-Norwegian history in the 20th century. This collection includes the contributions of the speakers as well as the speeches of the German Chancellor and the Norwegian Prime Minister at the exhibition opening, supplemented by an essay on the Nobel Prize awarded to Willy Brandt in 1971.
