This edition aims to present the Edda poems in a compact and readable form as faithfully as possible to the tradition. Special care has been taken with the linguistic and orthographic presentation of the texts. Normalization was necessary, but it was important to preserve linguistic values whenever possible. Since Bugge, the linguistic form of the Codex Regius has received little attention. Here, an attempt has been made to derive linguistic norms directly from the main manuscript, and the findings have been used as the basis for the spelling, including for pieces derived from other sources. The apparatus pays less attention to the secondary manuscripts than to the Codex Regius, whose dittographies and corrections are also recorded. Overall, the apparatus aims not only to provide means for achieving a subjectively satisfying wording but also to offer material for the history of the text.
