Product details
Between 1945 and 1955, hundreds of thousands of people were born in Germany and Austria, whose fathers were soldiers of the Allied occupying forces. Many of these so-called occupation children never met their fathers from the USA, Great Britain, France, or the former Soviet Union. They often experienced exclusion within their families and from society. Ute Baur-Timmerbrink, herself an occupation child, assists people in searching for their soldier fathers and has so far facilitated around 200 family reunifications. The focus of her book is on portraits of occupation children from Germany and Austria. Two contributions from experts provide insights into the relationship between occupying soldiers and the local population from 1945 to 1955 and present the latest research findings on the psychosocial burdens faced by occupation children.
