Christian Morgenstern has a firm place in the canon of German literature. However, it is mostly the humorous poet of the "Galgenlieder" that is acknowledged. That Morgenstern, as a student of Rudolf Steiner, was capable of expressing different tones is demonstrated by his posthumously published collection of poems "Wir fanden einen Pfad," which he dedicated to Rudolf Steiner. The poems originate from the last five years of his life and were compiled by him personally. On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his death in 1914, we are reissuing this cycle of poems, which was once published as volume 11 in the beautifully designed edition of "Sämtlichen Dichtungen" by Zbinden Verlag. David Marc Hoffmann, director of the Rudolf Steiner Archive, has written an afterword that examines Morgenstern's relationship with Rudolf Steiner and the influence it had on his poetry.
