Viktor Mann, the youngest of the three brothers, grew up in Bavaria, trained as a farmer from the ground up, is an agricultural expert, and worked in the banking sector. Even during the years when his brothers were considered 'enemies of the state,' he remained steadfast despite many challenges in the country and has now nearly completed an autobiographical and family memoir. The youngest brother wanted to be represented by Heinrich and Thomas Mann before the completion of this book. Yet, "We Were Five" proves that Viktor Mann, with his very different background and his equally great, humorous storytelling ability, is part of that remarkable family where writing was considered an "inherited vice" (Klaus Mann). Since its publication in 1949, "We Were Five" has established itself as a standard title in Mann literature, although it is about Viktor Mann's life.
