The focus of this dissertation is on the personal effects and relevant processes of peer consultation. These are examined from both a theoretical and empirical perspective. Peer consultation is a person-centered advisory approach aimed at reflecting on professional practice. Four characteristic core features of this approach are developed: (1) the consultation takes place in groups, (2) cases from the practice of individual participants are reflected upon, (3) the consultation process follows a flowchart, and (4) the consultation occurs reciprocally without a constant leader. These features prove to be a suitable framework to clearly distinguish peer consultation from formats such as supervision and coaching, as well as from varying alternatives. The theoretical foundation of peer consultation is currently limited. References to existing theories are included.
