Peter Stender investigates how teachers should act to support students in independently tackling a complex modeling problem while ensuring that a meaningful answer to the modeling issue is produced. He examines this question within the framework of three-day mathematics modeling workshops by analyzing video recordings using qualitative content analysis. In doing so, he identifies effective teacher interventions and, based on this, develops further theory-driven teacher interventions using heuristic strategies.
