To truly love a city, one must know its past. Wismar, a gem on the Baltic Sea, is shaped by the great era of the Hanseatic League and a 155-year affiliation with the Kingdom of Sweden. A stroll through the city evokes a sense of nostalgia, but also joy in discovering and remembering. The selected photos, postcards, and images from the late 19th century to the 1960s were created long after Wismar's heyday. Nevertheless, the viewer can sense the pride of the citizens of Wismar in the sight of the vast marketplace or the monumental sacred buildings, which they expressed architecturally. In addition to the beauty of the city, particularly defined by its silhouette and harbor character, the images provide insight into the various aspects of social, economic, and cultural life.
