Product details

Derivative goodwill has reached a significant magnitude in German consolidated financial statements and can therefore be considered an important balance sheet item. As early as 2001, Dyckmann, Davis, and Dukes referred to goodwill as "one of the most common and largest (in dollar amount) intangible assets." According to a study by Kümpel and Klopper, the recognized goodwill in the IFRS consolidated financial statements of the analyzed German Stock Index (DAX30) companies is one of the largest balance sheet items in fixed assets and, in some cases, even exceeds the consolidated equity. These high levels of goodwill have a considerable impact on the representation of the asset, financial, and earnings situation of corporations, posing significant challenges not only for the reporting companies but also for auditors and, in particular, analysts.
