The shortage of skilled workers in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (STEM) is increasingly proving to be a hindrance for Germany as a high-tech location. An attractive STEM education is a prerequisite for sustainably securing the demand for skilled workers. Furthermore, in a society shaped by natural and technical sciences, there is a need to provide all individuals with a corresponding basic understanding. Science and politics are called upon to develop and implement didactically effective and appealing concepts for STEM education aimed at young people. On one hand, to specifically promote talented young individuals, and on the other hand, to establish a fundamental STEM education within the school system. This anthology summarizes the results of an interdisciplinary working group from the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and analyzes them.
