Augsburg, with its rivers, streams, and canals, its magnificent fountains, and especially its old water towers, is something truly special and unique in the world. For this reason, it has been proposed that Augsburg and its water world should be specially protected. This decision will be made by UNESCO. This institution lists places and monuments that are important for all people around the world on its World Heritage List. Whether Augsburg and its water will be included as a World Heritage site will be decided in 2017. Augsburg is applying with themes of water engineering and hydropower, drinking water, and fountain art.
