Her first film as a freelance contributor for ZDF is about Balochistan, Pakistan's problematic province. At the end of the shooting, a high-ranking government official remarked, "You have accomplished something that was not allowed for anyone else." The author amusingly recounts how she managed to do this in 1976 and how she navigated a country where it is customary to largely ignore women. The narrative reveals many interesting facts about this least-known province of Pakistan, from Alexander the Great, who nearly failed during his retreat from India through the deserts of Balochistan, to the charismatic Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who held the PPP party congress there and was assassinated shortly after the film aired. An appendix includes a report on the phenomenon of man-eating tigers in former East Pakistan.
