There are hardly any material collections in German that are suitable for providing students in their early semesters with a condensed, source-based knowledge of the history of Latin America. The present source volume aims to address this gap, covering the history of Latin America from 1400 to 1800. To this end, it compiles previously scattered classics of textual sources from the period of European expansion and the colonial history of Latin America, supplemented by lesser-known materials. The volume also includes visual sources, statistical data, and maps. Introductions are provided for the sources, intentionally kept brief to encourage exploratory learning.
