The dictionary of ethnology is finally available in a fundamentally revised new edition. Of the 1550 entries, more than 500 have been newly included. Over 100 scholars from numerous institutes in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have contributed to this work. Like other disciplines, ethnology has developed and changed. There are various perspectives, research directions, schools, and trends. Research questions, fields, theories, and methods are being abandoned or reformulated. The new edition of the dictionary takes this fact into account. Scholars from different research focuses across all areas of German-speaking ethnology have collaborated on it. The lexicon character of the dictionary gains a sharper profile in the new edition by concentrating on ethnological terminology. The selection of entries was made based on focus areas.
