This theological master's thesis is a contribution for scholars and the generally interested who seek orientation in the question of evil. For millennia, people have compromised their own and collective happiness through attitudes and behaviors that the church tradition explains with the term "sin." Whether one dismisses sin today as an outdated concept or clings to the moralistic tradition of self-discipline, the need for explanations regarding the causes and handling of evil remains. Since the 1980s, the theologian and psychoanalyst Eugen Drewermann, who has been ostracized by the Catholic Church, has brought to light connections between deep psychological motivations, biblical-mythological traditions, and recurring behavioral patterns of humans, which reverses and embeds the image of the self-conquering individual.
