The normal desire to move into one's own apartment and live independently is difficult to fulfill for people with Asperger's syndrome, as they are not cognitively impaired but often require special support in managing daily life and social interactions. For three young men with this form of autism, a two-year housing training program by Lebenshilfe Nürnberg provided the opportunity to acquire practical and social-communicative skills necessary for as independent living as possible. The scientific support, funded by Aktion Mensch, examined how the need for support and assistance changed over the course of the project, as assessed by the educational companions, the parents, and the project participants themselves. This report also contains insights on this matter.
