Product details
The hoarding syndrome refers to a phenomenon in which individuals make their living spaces uninhabitable by accumulating worthless, unusable items, thereby facing threats of eviction, forced removal, and placement in a care facility. While those less severely affected may have the prospect of receiving support from someone who has already recovered from hoarding, the severe cases are not manageable without intervention from authorities, the justice system, and waste disposal services. It is always these cases that attract media attention. This book is aimed at social educators, doctors, psychologists, journalists, staff from authorities such as health departments, regulatory agencies, social services, as well as individuals affected by hoarding syndrome and their relatives. It has three objectives: 1. To present the causes of hoarding syndrome as comprehensively as currently possible, 2. To provide assistance in understanding those affected, and 3. To outline potential support measures. In this 6th edition from 2018, the author Dr. Renate Pastenaci summarizes her 18 years of experience in the psychotherapeutic and psychiatric treatment of patients affected by hoarding syndrome in an introductory chapter. She encourages reaching out to these individuals and showing them appreciation. The new edition has also been expanded to include a current list of addresses to which individuals seeking help and their relatives can turn.
