From March 1944, the SS and German companies established 45 external camps for female concentration camp prisoners in Lower Silesia, the Sudetenland, Lusatia, and East Brandenburg, which were under the administration of the Gross-Rosen concentration camp. Andrea Rudorff comprehensively examines this camp system for the first time based on new source material. The cross-camp perspective allows for the capture of structural phenomena and the elaboration of the specifics of the camp system. A significant focus is placed on the actions of the actors, the options available to the prisoners, as well as the behavior of the female guards, the operational staff, and the local population. Furthermore, the prosecution of female guards in Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the two German states is also investigated.
