Adolf Josef Storfer (1888-1944), a trained lawyer and literary scholar as well as a journalist, was part of the Viennese circle around Sigmund Freud since the 1910s. As the head of the Psychoanalytic Publishing House in Vienna, he oversaw the publication of psychoanalytic writings. In 1938, he fled from the Nazis to Shanghai, where he founded the exile magazine Gelbe Post, and from there continued on to Australia. Storfer's two etymological works, "Wörter und ihre Schicksale" (Berlin/Zurich 1935) and "Im Dickicht der Sprache" (Vienna/Leipzig/Prague 1937), are now available again in a combined, unabridged edition. The volumes include a foreword by Joachim F. Danckwart, a specialist in the history of psychoanalysis, as well as an obituary by Alfred Polgar and a text by Josef Kalmer.
