Michael Stavaric follows in the footsteps of Helmut Qualtinger and H.C. Artmann. In 84 short poems written in dialects, the linguistically versatile author brings the reader closer to the Viennese soul—infused with morbid charm and grotesque humor. Stavaric's thematic journey through the life of the original Viennese takes readers through the Volksgarten, the Prater, past the Old Danube, horse-drawn carriages, and wine taverns, ultimately arriving at the Vienna Central Cemetery to confront the "wöduntagong." The poetry collection "in an schwoazzn kittl gwicklt" reinterprets Austrian dialects while simultaneously illuminating the many facets of poetry. Each poem is accompanied by a translation into Standard German, allowing those who are not familiar with Austrian dialects to open the door to the Viennese soul, at least to some extent.
