More than 4.5 million Germans, over 5% of the population, are currently suffering from chronic wounds or injuries that do not heal or heal very slowly for various reasons, significantly impacting the quality of life of those affected. The long-term treatment required for these conditions places a burden on the healthcare system of the Federal Republic, with annual costs exceeding 5 billion euros. This suffering and cost are expected to multiply in the coming decades due to demographic changes: over the next 25 years, the number of affected individuals is projected to double to more than nine million Germans, while the population is simultaneously expected to decline to below 80 million people. This book addresses the question of how chronic wounds can be documented in nursing practice, both in writing and photographically, and what conditions need to be considered in this process.
