Bernard Noël's debut "Extraits du Corps" from 1958 is still considered his most important work more than 50 years after its publication. This collection of prose poems presents a blending of body and language in concise protocols, which serves as the focal point of Noël's entire literary output. The lyrical tone of the miniatures oscillates between concrete description and abstract poetic imagination, creating an ambivalent interplay between linguistic and bodily processes. This attempt to merge the material and the immaterial through the medium of language has significantly influenced younger generations of French poets: without it, the lyrical work of Jean Daive, who explicitly references Noël's collection, would be unthinkable. The bilingual collection "Extraits du corps / Körperextrakte" is Noël's first poetry work.
