Bublitz, Kolberg, Bauhaus Weimar, Berlin, Paris, Tunisia, Algeria, North-Central-South America, New York, Basel, Paris—these are only a few stations in Ré Soupault's life as a Bauhaus student, avant-garde filmmaker, fashion journalist, fashion designer, photographer, translator, student of Karl Jaspers, radio essayist, and writer. She wrote some of her memories as letters back in the 1970s, using them to process her diaries, among other things. This first part of her memoirs ranges from the 1910s to 1949. With her incorruptible, clear view, she describes a world in upheaval, marked by two world wars. At the same time, her text offers a unique look at the cultural life of the European avant-garde. Until shortly before her death, she worked on the continuation of her biography.
