Paul Goesch is one of the few trained artists in the Prinzhorn Collection. He was a respected expressionist painter and draftsman of his time and an active member of the avant-garde, spending twenty years in psychiatric institutions before being murdered by the Nazis in 1940. The museum, which received over 340 works by Goesch as a donation in 2015, presents more than 150 drawings and watercolors by the artist from its own collection, many of which are being exhibited for the first time. Paul Goesch's diverse gouaches showcase fantastic architecture, portraits, Christian and mythological scenes, as well as abstract compositions. He studied architecture (1903-1911) and subsequently worked in the civil service in Kulm, West Prussia. After World War I, he was part of the avant-garde art scene in Berlin and was a member of the "November Group.".
