The author embarks on a journey once again from the perspective of old age. It takes him back to the cradle of his life, his ancestral home, and his family of origin. He begins to gather memories, especially those of his numerous siblings, which he complements with his own. He delves into archives, creates family trees, sifts through local newspapers, historical treatises, and the photo collection of his deceased mother. Armed with this knowledge, he writes from a personal perspective, yet as factually accurate as possible, the story of his family of origin and describes their fortunes from ancestors to the present day. In doing so, he attempts to continually place the subjectively experienced and narrated development of his original family community within the changing social context and to view epochal changes through the eyes of a sociologist. He hopes to achieve this with his book.
