The utility analysis is a planning methodology for systematic decision preparation in the analysis and selection of complex project alternatives. Its distinctive feature is that a variety of quantitative and qualitative criteria of a target system can be applied to the evaluation of alternatives with relatively few practical difficulties. The now available 5th edition of "Utility Analysis in Systems Engineering" primarily includes the unchanged reprint of the original work published in 1970. However, for the first time, this fifth edition also addresses two thematic areas that have gained increasing importance in recent times due to the widespread application of utility analysis in science and practice: one of these is the topic of sensitivity analysis of the results of utility analysis.
