Starting from the consideration that the fundamental processes of the human mind, such as perceiving, speaking, thinking, and acting, are activities determined by interpretation and signs, Günter Abel has developed a three-tiered model of sign and interpretation relationships in a series of books. In his new book, he continues this approach by focusing on the relationship between signs and reality, as well as between knowledge and world reference. The fundamental role of sign and interpretation processes in their connection with consciousness, mind, language, forms of knowledge, worldviews, and image worlds is profiled in engagement with contemporary philosophical positions and further developed from a systematic perspective. Abel thus undermines traditional and prevailing dichotomies and advances the approach of sign and interpretation philosophy.
