The increasing demands for quality and productivity in the manufacturing of mechanical and electrical components, as well as for quality assurance, have led to newly developed and improved methods in non-destructive testing techniques. Radiographic testing of components is one of the oldest and most widely used methods. In addition to the use of films for radiation detection, significant advancements have been made recently with the introduction of direct image conversion and digital image processing. Among these new developments is microfocus technology, which is particularly effective in detecting small defects and microstructures.
