Product details

Oh, how the region along the Elbe, Saale, and Unstrut rivers has once again come to the center of Germany with the reunification, its history is also increasingly coming back into consciousness. A thousand years ago, international politics were made here, shaping Germany's image and its role in Europe under the first German king, Henry the Fowler, and his descendants. Stone testimonies of these transformative developments are the buildings from this era: monasteries, cathedrals, and castles. The path along the "Romanesque Road" offers everyone who follows it a fascinating insight into a distant age. At the same time, one experiences a wealth of diverse landscapes full of natural beauty in a relatively small area, rich in idyllic villages and towns where today the guest is king. The tourist picture journey is accompanied by informative texts in a trilingual edition (German/English/French) and provides background information about sights, the land, its people, and cultural history related to the images. The picture journey begins in the wine region of Saale and Unstrut and continues along the traces of the "Romanesque Road" and the reformer Martin Luther into the Halle and Anhalt region. From Wittenberg, the journey follows the Elbe to the state capital Magdeburg with its famous cathedral and further into the idyllic Altmark. There, where the Elbe becomes the border river to the Mark Brandenburg, we reach the Arendsee. From here, the journey returns via Salzwedel, always along the "Romanesque Road," and ends at the historically significant cities, castles, and fortresses of the Harz mountain region.
