The wealthy live in luxurious areas in the city center, while beyond the border walls, the poor struggle for survival in the slums. Alex, a young woman from Zone 4, rebels against the system. Her critically ill twin sister needs a medication that is only available in Zone 1. Alex's attempt to obtain this medication leads to her downfall. She is caught - illegal border crossing is punishable by death. David, a young privileged lawyer from Zone 1, takes on her defense and sets off an escalation that no one anticipated.
