Abstract: In attempting to describe "evil," one quickly realizes that it is not so easily defined. In the effort to articulate it, various terms are repeatedly associated with "evil": the freedom of man and his inclination to sin, as well as the love of God, which seemingly stands in absolute contradiction to the suffering in the world. In this paper, I aim to provide an overview of the Old and New Testament concepts of God in order to present the understanding of God's wrath and punishment as a consequence of sin and transgressions against God. The nature of sin only emerges in its full, ominous weight from a Trinitarian perspective.
