Oswald Spengler was an influential thinker and quite popular. However, the author of 'The Decline of the West' quickly disappeared from the discursive landscape. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the publication of this once highly discussed work, 'Spengler's Afterlife' brings together contributions from various cultural studies fields that explore the question of what influence Spengler's thinking has had on European intellectual history even after its overcoming. The focus is on the concepts of culture, technology, and (the end of) history, which were uniquely intertwined in Spengler's work and - as the hypothesis of these contributions suggests - not without consequences.

Christian Voller works at the Institute for the Culture and Aesthetics of Digital Media (ICAM) at Leuphana University Lüneburg. He studied cultural studies and European cultural history in Frankfurt/Oder and Berlin. His research focuses include critical theory, philosophy of technology, and reactionary modernism.
