Zurich, the secret capital of Switzerland, is small and manageable – yet it is a cosmopolitan metropolis with global significance as a financial center. Surrounded by snow-capped Alpine peaks that shine over the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Zurich, the city offers numerous attractions on both sides of the Limmat River, dating back to Roman antiquity. Everywhere you encounter evidence of great historical events, such as at the Grossmünster, the center of the Reformation in Switzerland, or in the legendary Spiegelgasse, where Georg Büchner and the Dada artists prepared artistic and Lenin political revolutions. A visit to the Kunsthaus is a must, as is a stroll along Bahnhofstrasse followed by a coffee at Sprüngli in Paradeplatz. Zurich may not be one of the cheapest cities in the world, but it is worth every cent.
