The terms arrangement, packing, and cutting problems encompass a variety of theoretical and practical issues. Although very different formulations are used, there are often very close relationships between them, so that methods for solving cutting problems can also be applied to arrangement and packing problems, and vice versa. This book primarily focuses on arrangement, packing, and cutting problems where an optimization component is significant. The aim is to provide an introduction to this topic, its problem statements, modeling techniques, and approaches to solution methods by addressing some fundamental cutting and packing problems.
