In my opinion, this input (filter present or not) is only used with the fully automatic machine to increase or cancel the time interval of the descaling process. So it should also work without specifying filter present or not above.

According to the specification, the filter is intended for 2 months. If the machine is not used for longer, it should be replaced after 3 weeks.
