Sknife has specifically developed a sharpening device with two stages; typically, Sknife knives only wear down in the front area. With Stage 1 (on the left side of the sharpening device), the blade can be pre-sharpened: pull the blade through about 10 times. To achieve a perfect edge on the knife blade, fine polishing stones have been manufactured in Japan.

A sheet of paper is used to test whether the sharpness achieved with the sharpening device has been restored. With Stage 2, the polishing stone of the sharpening device, the cutting edge can be polished: pull the blade through about 10 times.
