Can someone please tell me if you can run it WITHOUT the extra water filter? I have lime-free water and don't need a filter in it.... or will I get an error message because of the missing filter? Thanks for the info.

The water filter does not necessarily have to be installed. The unit asks whether you want to use the filter when you set it up. If you do not want to, you do not have to.
