Have any of you used it? Does it only suck in one direction (forward) like the Dyson, or in both directions?

No to your question. It sucks very well when pulled over the side. It has to be said that it is much heavier than my old Dyson V8, or feels heavier.
It sucks in the dust very well, even when pulled sideways.
The Dyson even liked to blow away bits of paper from the side instead of classifying them.
The Miele definitely does that better.

I bought the Cats&Dogs.
The standard roll is already great on Pakett. There is a hard floor roller available separately that is supposed to be quieter - but you probably don't need it. The carpet roller included with the Cats&Dog will be needed for a somewhat long-haired carpet.
But it can be changed quite quickly.

No. The suction performance compared to the Dyson (V8 for me) is remarkable. No matter in which direction it is pulled over the dirt.

You only have to be careful with Tepich. Even with short fibres, the highest level gets stuck. Either vacuum on a low setting or use a carpet roller.
But it's remarkable what the Miele can still get out of a supposedly clean carpet.
